FAQ

What is the difference between a pet sitter and a boarding facility?
A pet sitter can care for your pets in their own home environment and is a safe familiar place for your pet. Having a sitter come to you may also save driving time and hours for visits are typically more flexible to your pets needs.

What types of services can my pet sitter offer me?
Most pet sitters offer daily visits, which typically includes feeding, refilling water dishes, potty time and walks or play time and cleaning the litter box, cages, etc... Some sitters offer over night stays in the home as well. Other services may include pet taxi, pooper scooper, picking up and delivering pet related items and some minor grooming and training. Lil ZooKeeper also offers customized visits since we do understand that not every patrons situation is the same.

Will my pet sitter be pet first aid and CPR certified?
Not all pet sitters are trained in pet first aid. Most all professional, licensed and insured pet sitters will have gone through the course to become certified in pet first aid for any emergency while the pet parent is away from home. Lil ZooKeeper also has experience administering medications and injections. Sitters who may not be pet first aid certified include those who are doing pet sitting as a part time job or a younger person looking to make some spending money over the holidays or summer breaks. The best way to find out if the sitter you are considering is certified is to ask the individual or visit their website if they have one available.

Should my pet sitter have pet sitter insurance and be bonded?
Most professional sitters will have business insurance coverage and typically they will have a special pet sitters insurance coverage that covers many incidents that could happen while caring for a pet. This insurance is different than other types of business insurance and is special to the needs of pet sitters. For more information on a sitters coverage it is best to contact that individual since there are several pet sitter insurances available. Bonding for sole proprietors is not normally needed unless that sitter has employees. However, Lil ZooKeeper does keep bonding through the insurance policy in case a breakage due to an accident in the home that may occur during a visit.

What other tasks may be included during a visit from my pet sitter?
Your pet sitter can also retrieve your mail, rotate lights in the home, turn on/off radios or TV left on for the pets, take out and retrieve trash cans, water plants, check all doors and windows to make sure they are locked and secure, arming/disarming alarms and some light cleaning.

Does Lil ZooKeeper keep the key to my house?
I typically leave the decision of what to do with the key after the initial visits up to the client. However, if I am going to be visiting often, it is safer for me to keep a copy of the key in my lock box at my home office. This is also beneficial to the client in a case of emergency and they need me to care for their pet on short notice. Also in the case of a client getting locked out of their home it is considerably cheaper for me to come and let them in than to call a locksmith.
